Processing 1.0 - A Cool Tool for Graphics Nerds

I first learned about Ben Fry from running across his original thesis paper on computation information design.  Apparently, he has done all kinds of additional work on the topic since his PhD thesis, which has led to a very cool new software language, Processing.  This software language is meant to both teach and be used by professionals to create visually more stunning work than can be done with most "out-of-the-box" expensive software solutions, and it's open source!

Google Chrome and Online Banking - No Utopia Yet

Google Chrome graphicA recent blog post was linked to by Payment News today regarding the potential that the new Google Chrome beta release web browser could bring to online banking. Unfortunately, neither the blog author or the Payment News brief link to the blog post thought through the many ways that such things have been suggested, accomplished, and failed at in the past. Ubuntu 8.04 Release Day!

Ubuntu 8.04, the "Hardy Heron" release, is now available for download. Slashdot has all of the usual good links to various information about it. Some of the comments are of course rather vulgar, but there's a lot of great geek dorkdom silliness in them too that some may really enjoy.

Summarize Feature on Mac OS X

I recently discovered a slick feature of the Mac OS X system while watching a MacBreak IPTV podcast on the Summarize feature embedded in the Services menu item of the operating system. This little application is quite the powerful little tool.
